Ayanna the "Soulful Rose"
was born in Piscataway, New Jersey. She was raised in Houston, Texas by both her musical
parents. Ayanna was already destined to be an astounding performer. Ayanna began singing at the tender age of three years old, she remembers singing, "When I see Jesus".
Throughout her maturing years Ayanna would uttilize her God-given talents in the church where her mother was
the minister of music. It was there Ayanna would learn to sing choir songs with harmonies and lead solo selections on Sunday
mornings on the praise and worship team. Ayanna acquired something different from other vocalist. Many of her
listeners would immediately say Ayanna's voice was aniointed. As she used her talents, Ayanna gained a professional-etiquette
on-stage that she unknowingly would use for the rest of her singing career. She began directing youth choirs and playing
piano by ear from notes and chords her mother would teach her. Churches in the community like; Ward Chapel Methodist,
Star Bethel Baptist, and New Jerusalem Baptist to name a few were some of the churches she would lead worship and
direct the choir. In addition to her church-music ministry, she was in demand for singing at weddings, funerals
and special ceremonial events. In high school she and some other students started the first gospel choir in the Klein district
and the choir would team up and travel locally to community outreaches. Ayanna's reputation and repetoir grew and she began
booking herself on calendar requested dates. When Ayanna's mother couldn't accompany her as the pianist, Ayanna
would use instrumentals and she would master them. Including her other talents of acting, modeling, voice-overs, and dancing
her journey continued to build with countless accomplishments. During the summertime Ayanna attended a jazz
program at the Montclair State College in Newark where she studied voice with a quartet band and performed
a jazz standard called "Summertime" by the unforgettable Ella Fitzgerald and "God Bless the Child" by the sultry
Billy Holiday at the Riker Park Stadium. The band accompanying her were seasoned musicians with the likes of Chris White and Kenny Barron (former bassist and pianist for the singer Nina Simone). As
Ayanna's singing talent matured, Ayanna landed the opportunity to sing full-time in her artistry.
Ayanna performed lead and back ground vocals with various bands in Houston such as; Commercial Art,
Brotherhood, Scott Gertner, and Radiance band, Clockwork, Level One, Jaime Casco, and Red Hot Cool. After more than ten-years singing
as a lead vocalist in one of the bands, Ayanna stepped out in faith and recently launched her solo-project as Ayanna the "Soulful Rose" Songstress. Today, one can find Ayanna
at Denis' Seafood off the Katy freeway serenading the patrons singing songs like "Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonder, "Don't
Know Why" by Norah Jones, "It Had to be You" by Frank Sinatra, "Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin, "Kiss
of Life" by Sade and many more late and great tunes. Ayanna's musical journey of experiences taught her the music formula
in selecting the right songs to creating a satisfied audience. She allows the listeners to groove down memory lane
while she sets the mood. Love songs like "Sweet Love" by Anita Baker, and "Shining
Star" by the great Manhattans is sure to create an enjoyable atmosphere for listeners that know good music. Funky-Soul, Rhythm
and Blues are definitely songs not to lose for those laid back foot-tapping audiences. Ayanna's vocal versatility is
always on point as she wails and scats to the guitar rifts of the song by Tracy Chapman called "Give Me One
Reason". Making her mark in the Houston area mesmerizing her audiences with her powerful vocals, exotic images, and
passionate performances, Ayanna the "Soulful Rose"
is the next big Diva to represent the wide state of Texas as a national and worldwide Artist.
